Facebook wants to make conversations in public posts more meaningful. The new ranking system will evaluate comments and prioritize those most relevant to users. The goal is to improve quality and offer users authentic comments.
The changes Facebook will apply to comments on Facebook pages and on posts from users who have a lot of followers. In these two cases, Facebook Comment Ranking is automatically activated. Users with fewer followers will not have the new feature turned on because there are fewer comments under their posts. But if they want to use the comment rating tool, they can go to their settings and turn it on.
The process is easy: click on Settings on your Facebook page, then click General and Order of comments, and then choose whether you want to have comment ranking turned on.
Facebook said that the factors which will be taken into account when determining the relevance of comments will be:
- Comments that contain interaction from the Facebook page or from the user who created the original post.
- Comments or reactions from friends of the user who created the original post.
- Facebook will not show low quality comments even if they are from the user who created the original post or from their friends.
Before launching the new ranking system, Facebook conducted several comprehensive surveys to understand what users want to see. If a comment violates community standards, Facebook will remove it, as it has been so far.
The new feature is already active and Facebook will gradually introduce it to all users.
Recently, Facebook has also announced a change in video ratings and added new rating parameters to Facebook page and group content to its algorithm.
