The new feature will allow users to share events that they are either interested in going or intend to participate, within Stories. Linking Stories and Events could provide businesses with another opportunity to raise awareness of their events.
After clicking on a specific event, the new option “Share to Your Story” appears. At the bottom of the Story, a new event sticker will be displayed with information such as the date, time, event name, and status, e.g. I’m interested in the event.
The friends of the user that added an event to their Story can click on the sticker to get to the event card. In addition, a list of friends who are planning to attend the event will also be included.
Facebook wants to offer businesses another way to achieve organic sharing of events among users and popular Stories.
In addition, eMarketer surveys show that younger users have been migrating to Instagram, and Facebook wants to bring them back to their platform. Instagram does not offer an event feature, and the event tool is very sophisticated on Facebook. That is why Facebook wants to focus on the development of such features that would attract younger users up to 24 years old, and many events are attended mainly by younger users.
Facebook has confirmed testing in the US, Brazil, and Mexico.
