Have you ever had to add coworkers as friends on Facebook who you didn’t really want to let into your private life? Workgroups will now be able to connect users who work together without having to make a “Facebook friendship.”
When you create a group, you must select a type to specify its focus. You can change this option for any existing community at any time. You can choose from seven types of groups – general, buying and selling, games, social education, career and newly collaborative groups.
If you choose a workgroup and join it, other members will only see information from your profile that is relevant to your work – job title, company and location. You can allow group members to send messages to each other without being friends on Facebook.
Only an administrator can set and change the group type from a computer or mobile phone. Another benefit is that individual group members can opt out of the messaging feature and avoid spam.
This is a small but very useful update that will protect users and better control their privacy. Facebook has begun introducing a new type of group that will gradually be available to all Facebook communities.
The Facebook Workplace platform is also worth a try, helping to connect people across an organization and providing businesses with many marketing tools. With Workplace, employees can communicate internally through chat or video chat across the company as well as within smaller internal groups.
