Facebook has tested search ads since December on selected automotive and retail advertisers. Now, it is expanding to more businesses.
Facebook launched Search Ads in 2012 but quickly removed this advertising option. They then began testing the feature in December 2018, and after a few months made it available to more advertisers. But the tool is still not active globally.
If you want to check and see if you have Search Ads available, go to Ad placement options in Ad Manager and you will see the new options: Search and Facebook search.
The whole process works in a similar way to Google ads. When someone searches for a term on Facebook, you can target your ad by displaying it among Facebook search results.
The number of advertisers Facebook has expanded the Search Ads tool to is not clear, and they have not yet commented on the situation.
Facebook is constantly working to expand their ad placement options and looking for new possibilities within their platforms where advertisers could promote their products and services, such as on WhatsApp or in Facebook groups.
