Instagram has begun testing a new feed view which will display side-by-side, as it’s the case with Instagram Stories.
The success of Instagram is based on the popularity of Stories, which are used by more than a billion people across all Facebook platforms. Facebook has said several times that Stories are the future of social sharing, so it is now experimenting and testing a new way of viewing posts in a feed similar to Stories.
Users should be able to choose whether to stay in the horizontal or vertical view of scrolling.

Instagram originated as a social network of images, but the growing trend of videos and the expansion of Stories has changed the initial concept of the app. Changes in user behaviour often drive Facebook and Instagram. Stories have been successful and introducing horizontal viewing could be a logical development.
When and whether vertical scrolling will be replaced by horizontal is not yet clear.
